Dr. Lovina Bhavnani-Akowuah, assistant professor of management, presented her research, “Exploring the Relationship Between Leadership Civility and Follower Mental Health,” at the Midwest Academy of Management Conference.
The study examined how servant leadership and laissez-faire leadership relate to employees’ mental health, focusing on the mediating role of perceived leader civility. Drawing on survey data from 380 working adults, the research found that perceived leader civility mediated both relationships, highlighting the importance of respectful leadership practices in supporting employee psychological well-being.
The conference brought together management scholars to present research, exchange ideas, and explore emerging issues in leadership, management, and organizational behavior.
