The Hamline community is warmly invited to the upcoming art exhibition, The Mercy of Events, by artist Jade Hoyer, on display at the Soeffker Gallery from September 8 through October 3.
Inspired by the writing of Margaret Atwood and the vastness of Lake Michigan, Hoyer's work features a stunning, large-scale portrait of the lake meticulously assembled on graph paper from 90,000 individual watercolor circles painted using actual lake water. Through watercolor and collage, the exhibition playfully subverts familiar visual structures—such as grids and childhood standardized tests—to explore our human quest for order in a world of unpredictable change.
