Applicants Sought for the Phillips Scholarship Program for 2026-2027

Applications are now being accepted for the 2026-27 cohort of the Phillips Scholarship Program. Phillips Scholars create and test innovative ideas that address an unmet community need by running their own summer projects. Students come together as a cohort to develop their leadership skills and prepare for their projects. Scholars receive a $5,000 scholarship and $4,500 stipend to support their summer project work. Ten students from 15 eligible Minnesota Private Colleges will be selected. The Hamline deadline to apply is January 30, 2026. Students will submit the paper application to the Hamline Financial Aid Office.

Students are eligible if they:

  • Are enrolled full-time at Hamline
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Are a first-year or second year in the spring of 2026 (third years are no longer eligible)
  • Aspire to address a significant need within a particular community
  • Demonstrate interest in civic engagement
  • Can participate in all required program trainings and events
  • Can complete a community engagement project in Minnesota during the summer of 2027

The Phillips Scholarship Program will require approximately 5-10 hours of planning per week during the 2026-27 academic year and a summer 2027 time commitment of 10-15 hours per week. In addition, Phillips Scholars are required to attend in-person training throughout the year as well as a two-day retreat. This program requires students to stay in Minnesota during summer 2027 to conduct their projects. Please be sure to have the capacity to fulfill this commitment when applying.
