Schramm Leads Workshop on Components of Language

Andreas Schramm, Professor Emeritus in the Hamline School of Education and Leadership, led a workshop for over 50 professionals at the Minnesota Literacy Action Network's summer institute. The workshop, intended for Adult Basic Education (ABE) teachers and administrators, focused on components of the English language such as words, phrases, sentences, and sounds, as well as "invisible" components such as inferences and assumptions. A heightened awareness of these structures is especially important for ABE instructors, Schramm asserts, as a large percentage of adult learners are non-native English speakers.
