Josh Beverly, Assistant Professor of Quantitative Analysis (HSB), is the first author on a research article published in Empirical Economics. The article, titled "The Unemployment Invariance Hypothesis in West Virginia: A Tale of Two Indicators" examines the long-term relationship between the labor force participation rate and unemployment rate in West Virginia, finding support for the Unemployment Invariance Hypothesis (UIH) despite structural breaks from 1976 to 2022. The results suggest that any discouraged worker effects in West Virginia should be counteracted by promoting sustained economic growth through long-term job creation and workforce reintegration strategies.
