Mubanga Kalimamukwento
Mubanga Kalimamukwento is the author of The Shipikisha Club, Obligations to the Wounded, Another Mother Does Not Come When Yours Dies, unmarked graves, and The Mourning Bird. She won the 2024 Dzanc Prize for Fiction, the 2024 Drue Heinz Literature Prize, a 2025 Minnesota Book Award, the 2022 Tusculum Review Poetry Chapbook Prize, and the 2018 Dinaane Debut Fiction Award. Her writing has appeared in adda, Poetry Wales, Contemporary Verse 2, Overland, and on Netflix. She's received support from the Miles Morland Foundation, the Africa Institute and the Hawkinson Fund for Peace and Justice. She has edited for the Water~Stone Review, Doek! Literary Magazine and Shenandoah, and in 2023, she founded Ubwali Literary Magazine. Mubanga has an LLB from Cavendish University, Zambia, an LLM from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, and an MFA from Hamline University. She is a PhD student in Feminist Studies at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, and teaches at the Minnesota Prison Writing Workshop.
