Lauren Miller

Visiting Faculty - Mechanical Engineering

Dr. Lauren Miller is thrilled to join Hamline University as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering with a strong foundation in both industry and research. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of St. Thomas and spent four years working at ZEISS Industrial Quality Solutions, where she supported manufacturing education initiatives across the United States and Canada. Following her industry career, Dr. Miller recently completed her PhD in Energy Science and Engineering at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where her research focused on metal additive manufacturing—specifically the relationship between processing conditions and material properties in a novel solid-state additive process.

Dr. Miller’s research interests include material property characterization, additive manufacturing, and engineering and manufacturing education. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes grounding complex engineering concepts in core math and science principles while encouraging students to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world problems. She integrates hands-on learning and communication practice into her courses, helping students engage deeply with the material and develop the skills necessary to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences.
