    Prospective Students

    Early University Honors

University Honors students commit to excellence and service by choosing the passions they want to pursue and exploring the areas in which they wish to excel. A select group of applicants to Hamline University are invited to be Early Admit University Honors Students. By joining the University Honors program, students gain the opportunity to make the most of their undergraduate careers by pursuing academic excellence, undergraduate research, community involvement, and individual development.

Hamline’s University Honors program is the most comprehensive in the area. It is also distinctive nationwide. University Honors students are required to achieve both in and out of the classroom, by pursuing individual development and scholastic achievement.  The program works to challenge students to think beyond the label of "Honors" as a reward, and invites students to challenge themselves to do more.

Application to Early Admit University Honors

The Early University Honors program is offered to only a select cohort of new, first-year admission applicants who demonstrate extraordinary accomplishments in and out of the classroom. Students are chosen based on their completed admission materials to Hamline; there is no separate application process. The most competitive applicants will possess a minimum of the following criteria:

    • a cumulative high school GPA of 3.8 or higher and an ACT composite score of 28 or higher
    • a strong admission essay that is rigorous, thoughtful, reflective, and well-written
    • a demonstrated commitment to contributions to community and lifelong learning

While a formal interview is not required, the Honors Faculty Council strongly encourages interested students who meet the above requirements, to attend the invitation-only Scholars Day event. (Contact the Admission Office for more information)

Early University Honors program members enjoy the benefits of taking Honors courses, mentorship with Honors faculty from day one, access to the Honors Lounge, and networking/collaboration opportunities in and outside of the Hamline community. Members of the Hamline Honors Faculty Council will make the final selection and candidates will be notified between January to mid-February of their senior year in high school.
