Higher Learning Commission Accreditation

Accreditation

Hamline University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), one of six regional institutional accreditors in the US that accredits degree-granting institutions provided they meet a set of established standards.

The mission of HLC is to serve the common good by assuring and advancing the quality of higher learning. The responsibility for assuring the quality of that learning rests with Hamline University. Following an extensive 10-year review and on-campus visit in early December 2017, HLC concluded Hamline had successfully met all five criteria of accreditation without the need for any interim monitoring. In August 2022, Hamline successfully completed a four-year assurance review and HLC concluded that the university met all five criteria of accreditation and that no interim monitoring is needed.

Starting in the 2022–23 academic year, the Hamline University community will engage in developing, implementing, and assessing a Quality Initiative Project (hlcommission.org). The next scheduled 10-year on-campus visit and associated review by the HLC will include the reaffirmation of accreditation and will take place in the 2027–28 academic year.
