A screenprint by associate professor Curt Lund has been awarded Third Place in the Gallery 96 winter members' exhibition, on display January 22 through February 28 at the Ramsey County Library Shoreview branch.
Tara Sweeney, professor emeritus of art at Augsburg University, served as juror, selecting three awards and four honorable mentions out of 39 total works. Sweeney noted Lund's "bold objective abstraction of letter forms and graphic color are riveting and, somehow, comical."
Lund's work, "Par-A-Dice Motel" is one of a series of prints based on photographs Lund took of vintage atomic-era hotel signage in the East Fremont neighborhood of Las Vegas. Selections from Lund's "East Fremont Project" have previously been exhibited at the Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts in Fridley and Altered Esthetics gallery in Minneapolis.
