Bosley, Snyder, Greenman and Hamline undergraduates/alumni publish

Stacie Bosley (professor of Economics), Samantha Snyder (assistant professor of Economics), Sarah Greenman (associate professor in Criminal Justice and Forensic Science) along with alumni Reece Thomas ('25) and Joe Penders ('24) and current undergraduate student G. Matthew Maroney recently published an article in the Journal of Consumer Policy.  The article, entitled "Profit-and-Loss Disclaimers and Disclosures: Testing a Regulatory Framework for Multi-level Marketing," reports the results of an experiment conducted at the 2024 Minnesota State Fair. The study finds that profit-and-loss disclaimers and disclosures significantly reduce earnings expectations and interest in a promoted multi-level (MLM) business opportunity. Findings are relevant to Federal Trade Commission rulemaking and to other efforts aimed at reducing the harm of earnings claims in the MLM industry.
