Binnur Ozkececi-Taner

Associate Provost for Curriculum and Faculty; Department Chair - Political Science

Dr. Binnur Ozkececi-Taner began her tenure as Associate Provost for Curriculum and Faculty in January 2026. She provides leadership across curriculum, academic quality, academic operations, accreditation, and the full faculty lifecycle, including general education, program review, faculty development, and collaboration across Academic Affairs and Student Success.

Dr. Ozkececi-Taner brings nearly two decades of experience at Hamline and approaches leadership with a focus on shared governance, transparency, and evidence-informed decision-making. Her research examines foreign policy analysis, political leadership, and decision-making, exploring how a leader’s belief system and personality traits shape their motivations and decisions.

Dr. Ozkececi-Taner earned her bachelor’s degree in International Relations from the Middle East Technical University (Turkey), her PhD in Political Science from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, and an MA in Peace Studies from the University of Notre Dame’s Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies.

Prior to this role, Dr. Ozkececi-Taner held a range of faculty and academic leadership positions, including Faculty Senate President, Faculty Council President, Program Chair, and Administrative Head. She is also a Professor in Political Science (Politics & Policy Studies) and serves on the editorial boards of Foreign Policy Analysis and International Studies Perspectives, as well as the advisory board of the Global Academy.

Students need to take responsibility for their learning. They have to be mindful individuals who can engage in constructive dialogue with their peers and professors. To do that, they need to be prepared to have their views and beliefs to be challenged in and outside of classroom. This is the key to a fulfilling life during and after college years.
