Alysia Chavez-Gunderson, student area coordinator of the Hamline Apartments, found her passion for Residential Life is very strong. Alysia served as a resident assistant during the 2022-2023 school year and earned Resident Assistant Of The Year for Sorin Hall. Through her position, she was able to provide positive experiences for first-year residents who were transitioning into living on their own. She firmly believes that having a safe and comfortable place to call your own is one of the most vital keys to success in college. In her role as Student Area Coordinator, Alysia is always ready to do whatever it takes to support the apartment community and ensure that every member is provided with the safe, engaging, comfortable environment that they deserve.

Alysia’s strengths include dedication, collaboration, leadership, and, most importantly, the ability to empathize. As a student and former resident, she is better able to understand what residents need as well as how to help them. To her, being a leader is a full-time job and doesn’t stop after the tasks for the day are completed. With this mentality, Alysia is both dedicated and motivated to make a difference not just in the apartments but in the lives of the residents residing in them.

Aside from Residential Life, Alysia has many hobbies, including gaming, viewing movies in the theater, musicals, and spending time with her Bearded Dragon named Moose! She is currently studying environmental studies with the goal of one day caring for exotic animals. Her favorite quote is, “I will not accept a life I do not deserve."
