Description

In honor of the legacy of Rev. Jesse Jackson who called us to “Keep Hope Alive,” this interactive session explores what it means to sustain equity-centered work, which can often lead to exhaustion, emotional depletion, and professional burnout when we lack sustainable practices. We’ll examine burnout to recognize the visible and overlooked signs of professional fatigue.

Building on Rev. Jesse Jackson’s leadership lessons on endurance, coalition-building, and sustaining hope, participants will learn practical strategies for well-being and leave with actionable tools to support personal resilience to thrive and remain effective.

Participant learning outcomes:

  1. Identify key signs of professional burnout
  2. Understand how identity and emotional labor influence well-being
  3. Develop a personal sustainability plan using reflective tool

Presenter: Dr. Rassheedah Watts

Dr. Eda Watts serves as Interim Vice Chancellor for Equity and Inclusion for the Minnesota State System, where she provides system-level leadership and guidance to campus diversity officers and senior leaders across a system of 33 colleges and universities. With more than six years within Minnesota State, serving at both the campus and system levels, she offers a deep cross-functional leadership perspective. Dr. Watts leads efforts to advance equitable student outcomes, strengthen organizational cultures, and equip leaders to navigate complex and high-impact environments. Learn more about Dr. Watts.
