Biography

Erin Tamaki currently serves as the Intercultural Programs Specialist and SEVIS Advisor; and has been with the Global Engagement Center since October 2015. Erin is the primary advisor for international students and serves as the Designated School Official and Alternate Responsible Officer for F-1 and J-1 status students. She manages international student focused programming on campus and other GEC program offerings, including International Student Orientation, Global Mentors, International Education Week, and Global Retreat. Erin has more than 10 years of experience in international education, exchange, and intercultural communication focused work, including five years spent overseas in Japan. Erin’s past professional experience includes roles in higher education overseas, foreign government offices, language interpretation agencies, and one of the world’s oldest and largest non-profit student exchange organizations. Erin graduated from Saint Olaf College with a B.A. in Sociology/Anthropology and Asian Studies with a concentration in Japan Studies; and has served as a Fellow for the Intercultural Communication Institute’s Summer Institute for Intercultural Communication. During her time as an undergrad she also studied abroad at Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan.
