Hello! I'm Tyler Anderson, and this is my third year with McVay. Last year I was a fellow at the Hamline site, and this year I am working at Arlington.

I am a senior at Hamline University and am majoring in psychology. I am also working on getting my elementary teaching license. In addition to working for McVay, I am on the swim team, and play trombone in the jazz ensemble at Hamline. I am a Hand-in-Hand buddy at Hancock Elementary. In my free time I enjoy listening to music, bowling, camping, fishing, biking and just about anything active in the outdoors.

Hello!  My name is Annalise Backstrom and I'm a senior at Hamline.  I'm a criminal justice major with a minor in psychology. I’ve lived in Minnesota all my life, but just recently moved to an apartment in St. Paul near campus!  In my spare time, I love listening to music, spending time with family and close friends, bowling, and watching movies. I love singing and am in the Women's Chorale at Hamline!  I'm also involved with the Peer Educators group and in ODK, which are both a lot of fun.

This is my second year with McVay and I’m a Fellow at Emma’s Place.  I love this program and enjoy spending time with the kids at my site every week!  It’s been a wonderful, rewarding experience and I will miss it very much when I graduate and move on to law school.

Hello everyone!!! My name is Karyn and I’m a senior majoring in English with a minor in sociology. I was born in Minnesota but grew up in Denver. A few of my interests are: art, theater, listening to Billy Joel, learning new words, body modification, and laughing way too hard. In my spare time you can usually find me writing something in a journal, spending time with people I love or working out.

This is my fourth year working at McVay and I couldn’t be happier. I’m a Fellow at Liberty Plaza and also serve as Senior Fellow. McVay has been a great opportunity because I am able to interact with youth, serve as a positive role model and learn a lot about myself through the kids. I’m fortunate to work at Liberty because it is partnered with Dayton Avenue Presbyterian Church, which is the church I attended as a child and I am now serving on the ministry staff working with the kids there as well.

I am planning to create my own Conflict Resolution Studies major with a possible philosophy minor. Besides working at McVay, I work at the student center, and am part of the Wesley scholars program. I am a psychology major, I play on the football team and I am an active member in numerous organizations on campus including the McVay Youth Voice Program. I am competitive in everything that I do and I put 100 percent into everything.  I am a music lover.

Working in the McVay program has opened up my eyes and heart, and I will forever take what I have learned in it with me for the rest of my life. In high school I was a two-time champion in track and was honored to be in the top 25 football players in Houston in my position. I look to further my work with McVay and be the best I can be for the kids.

Hi! My name is Rylee Erickson and I am a senior at Hamline University studying English/Creative writing. I am originally from a small town in Northern Minnesota called Cloquet which I didn't fully appreciate until I moved to the city. In my spare time you can probably find me with my friends, running, or reading. After Hamline, there is more school in my future, I love to learn and honestly don't understand what adults do when they stop going to school.

This is my second year as a fellow at Liberty Plaza and I am so excited about it. I learned a lot in my first year with the program and couldn't be more appreciative about this opportunity!

    Senior Fellow

    Hi!  I’m Cat Polivoda.
I am graduating in December and this is, sadly, my last semester with McVay. For three years I worked at the Bethlehem/Hamline United Methodist location in the Midway. No experience on campus has had a larger impact on my time at Hamline than the McVay Youth Partnership.  It is the best job in the entire world!

I am originally from La Crescent, Minnesota but like to call St. Paul home. I am majoring in Global Studies and German and starting the ESL Masters program at Hamline in the spring to become an English as a Second Language Teacher.  I just got back from studying abroad in Germany.  Some things I like to do in my free time are spend time in the sun, watch CSI Miami and laugh lots with people I love.

I am John Vang, a second year transfer student here at Hamline University. I come from Sacramento, CA but now I reside in Champlin, MN (a little past Brooklyn Park). I am majoring in English Education and hoping to become a high school English teacher. Aside from academics, I am involved with the Hmong Student Association at Hamline as the Public Relations Officer.

When I am off-campus, I am involved in the hip-hop community helping others hold jams (b-boy competitions) and competing myself. I have been doing this for about 4 years but it was not long ago that I began taking this seriously. I will be working at Arlington and Wheelock this year with a small focus on teaching on b-boying.
