LGBTQIA Coalition
The
mission of the LGBTQIA Coalition is to strengthen the support for LGBTQIA individuals and
communities at Hamline University.
The Coalition is
a group of students, staff, and faculty members at Hamline University that aims specifically to represent the presence, concerns, and
interests of LGBTQIA people within the university community.
Our purposes
include:
- raising
awareness of issues pertaining to the LGBTQIA and related communities
- advising the coordination and implementation of
LGBTQIA programs and events
- serving as ambassadors for goals and
objectives related to LGBTQIA people on
campus
- promoting LGBTQIA focused and related
activities
- responding to relevant campus and
community incidents and issues that relate to the LGBTQIA identities and
experiences
- strengthening
LGBTQIA communities on campus
- providing
identifiable resources for LGBTQIA individuals and supporters
Our goal is to help create and nurture a
living, learning and work environment free from prejudice and bias-motivated
actions at Hamline University, as well as throughout the larger community. As a Coalition, we do this by
educating the community on campus, partnering with on- and off- campus groups,
monitoring the campus climate, building coalitions in varying areas of the
community, advocating with campus officials, and reviewing and recommending
changes to Hamline University policies. Additionally, members have the opportunity to serve on one of the four sub-committees: Training, Programming, Research and Assessment, and Awareness, Advocacy and Action.
