• Major Exploration Night: Information for FYSEM Faculty

    Monday - Friday, October 12 - 16, 2020
    ***ALL VIRTUAL!***

This year, the Career Development Center has made plans to transform Major Exploration Night into a modified, more flexible, and virtual Major Exploration Week in light of COVID-19 safety precautions. Engaging in Major Exploration Week is a required activity for students in Hamline's First Year Seminars, which are designed to help new students become acclimated to the University.

Choosing a major is one of the first significant life-decisions that many college students have to make. Most of us are not born with a sense of our vocational path. For many students, coming to a conclusion about an undergraduate major requires a fair amount of active investigation.

This is why the Career Development Center facilitates this major exploration event for all Hamline students to explore and discover majors at Hamline. In collaboration with academic departments, the Career Development Center is providing resources and opportunities for students to take the first steps in their investigative process, as well as connect with faculty and fellow students about potential majors.

The Career Development Center will promote major and career exploration virtually through social media, suggested activities, online resources, and promotion of info sessions hosted by academic departments. You can explore these resources and info sessions here.

See below for downloadable and editable sample assignments and resources you may use to support your Major Exploration assignments. (These samples were guided by past assignments assembled by FYSEM faculty with resources compiled by CDC staff.)
