• Major Exploration Night: Information for FYSEM Faculty

Attending Major Exploration Night is a required activity for students in Hamline's First Year Seminars, which are designed to help new students become acclimated to the University.

Choosing a major is one of the first significant life-decisions that many college students have to make. Most of us are not born with a sense of our vocational path. For many students, coming to a conclusion about an undergraduate major requires a fair amount of active investigation.

This is why the Career Development Center facilitates Major Exploration Night for all Hamline students to explore and discover majors at Hamline. Our hope is to create a welcoming atmosphere where students might take the first step in their investigative process, along with providing students and faculty the opportunity for open dialogue.

All academic departments will be hosting an open house for Major Exploration Night on Tuesday, October 22, 5 - 7 pm. See the map of locations here (will be posted soon).

See below for downloadable and editable sample assignments and resources you may use to support your Major Exploration assignments. (These samples were guided by past assignments assembled by FYSEM faculty with resources compiled by CDC staff.)
