• Clarence Nelson Fitness Center

    Dedicated October 7, 2006 - Remodeled in Fall, 2007 & Upgraded in Summer, 2010

    The Clarence Nelson Fitness Center is named for professor Clarence Nelson, who taught health and physical education classes, as well as served as a director of intramurals and director of athletics at Hamline University.

    This state-of-the-art work-out facility is available for use by the Hamline University community and is used by Piper student-athletes taking part in strength and conditioning programs under Coach Chris Hartman.

    The facility was dedicated on October 7, 2006 and was remodeled in the fall of 2007. An upgrade during the summer of 2010 brought 15 new LifeFitness pieces of equipment into the facility.

    The addition of the 15 new LifeFitness machines adds nine new exercises to the capabilities of the fitness center and the Piper strength & conditioning program.

    This equipment was purchased through a joint effort with the Hamline Undergraduate Student Congress (HUSC).

    The 2007 remodel added all new free weight equipment, 10 elevated lifting platforms, 20 individual lifting stations, and allows the facility to accommodate 60 athletes per training session.

    The free weight equipment includes:

    • 20 Olympic lifting bars – 20 kg
    • 10 Olympic lifting bars – 10 kg
    • Over 10,000 pounds of free weights
    • 2,500 pounds of Olympic lifting weight
    • 2,000 pounds of new dumbbells 

    The aerobic and cardiovascular areas include:

    • 4 treadmills
    • 5 elliptical machines
    • 6 stairclimbers
    • 9 stationary bikes
