President Miller Signs Additional Letters of Support for DACA Students

Fayneese Miller has joined college and university presidents in Minnesota and across the country in signing additional letters of support urging Congress to pass legislation as soon as possible to protect Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) students.

The American Council on Education (ACE) letter states that Hamline University, among other colleges, stands with DACA students, and is committed to work with Congress in a bipartisan manner to address this issue as quickly as possible. The ACE letter is endorsed by the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges. It was delivered to Speaker Ryan, Leader Pelosi, Leader McConnell and Leader Schumer on Wednesday, October 18.

"Colleges and universities have seen these remarkable people up close, in our classrooms and as our colleagues and friends. Despite the challenges they face, they have made incredible contributions to our country and its economy and security. They should continue to be able to do so," reads the letter. "If we are unable to protect these Dreamers, we will be shutting the door to an entire generation of individuals who seek to contribute their best to America."

The Minnesota Private College Council presidents all recently signed a similar letter. This follows pledges of support signed by President Miller with 700 college presidents in November 2016.
