Hamline University’s Creative Writing Programs Director Mary Rockcastle has been named the winner of the 2015 Kay Sexton Award. The award is sponsored by Common Good Books and awarded annually to an individual or organization that has shown dedication and work in fostering books, reading, and literary activity.

Among Rockcastle’s long list of accomplishments which were factors in the award are the development of Hamline’s MFA in Creative Writing and MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults programs, creation of the award-winning national literary journal Water~Stone Review, and the countless hours she spends connecting with and developing writers.

Rockcastle is the author of two novels, Rainy Lake (1996) and In Caddis Wood (2011), which were finalists for Minnesota Book Awards. She is also the recipient of a Bush Foundation Fellowship and a Loft-McKnight Award of Distinction, both in fiction.

Rockcastle will be honored on Saturday, April 18, at the 27th annual Minnesota Book Awards Gala at Saint Paul’s Union Depot. You can read the full award announcement and more about Rockcastle's accomplishments on the Friends of Saint Paul Library website and watch a video tribute to her below.
