2018 NCORE Mini-Conference

Join the Hamline University NCORE Team on Friday, January 19, 2018 for a day-long exploration of race, race relations, racism and racial justice. The mini-conference is titled "Practicing Anti-Racist Ally-ship and Activism: Naming and Confronting White Supremacy," and will take place in the Anderson Center room 114 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

The aims of the event are to create a diverse learning community that: (1) examines “race” as a concept and lived experience through the lens and evolution of whiteness; (2) empowers allies about the complexities of race and racism to help them see a path to understanding and interrupting white supremacy; and (3) educates about counter-narratives and anti-oppressive actions to address racism and white supremacy. As in the past, participants will hear from speakers and have opportunities in both large group and small group discussions and activities to: think about their own assumptions, experiences and identities; engage in self-reflection and conversation with others about race and class; and learn strategies for resisting and interrupting systems of oppression.

Please register by Wednesday, January 17. For more information, contact the Hedgeman Center at hedgemancenter@hamline.edu or 651-523-2423. Additional registration and event information will be available in early January.
