Alumna Elected to City Council

Andrea Jenkins MFA '09 was elected to the Ward 8 seat on the Minneapolis City Council on Tuesday. She is the first openly transgender person in the country to win a council seat in a major city according to MPR News.

Jenkins previously served as a policy aide for the council. She also created Minnesota’s Transgender Issues Work Group and curated the Transgender Oral History Project in the Tretter Collection at the University of Minnesota. Learn more about her accomplishment in the Washington Post.
