In Memoriam: Hamline Alumna Claudia Hoyos

Claudia Saavedra Hoyos `96 passed away on December 13, 2008, at the age of 38, surrounded by her husband Juan and her closest family members and friends.   She had been admitted to in-patient hospice care at North Memorial on December 5. 

Claudia is survived by many family members including her husband, Juan; her mother, Trudy; her brothers, Leo (Marisol), Mario, Christian and her brother Jorge Saavedra, a 1997 graduate of Hamline University School of Law. 

Claudia was born in Santiago, Chile, and came to the United States at the age of six.  She graduated from Bismarck Century High School in 1986,  Georgetown University in 1991, and Hamline University School of Law in 1996.  After graduating with honors form Hamline's law school, Claudia worked as a securities and international law attorney, first at Dorsey & Whitney and later at Moneygram International.  Claudia also was involved in many community activites and served on the boards of nonprofit organizations such as Pangea World Theater. 

Services were held on Tuesday, December 18, 2007. In lieu of flowers or donations, memorials can be directed to the Claudia Saavedra Hoyos Scholarship Fund at Wells Fargo.
