Seminars Expand Reach of Popular Women’s Professional Conference

Hamline University School of Business's annual Women in Public Service (WIPS) Conference has led to an expanded lineup of similar events in Spring 2019.

The School of Business’s Center for Public Administration has released a list of Spring 2019 topics which will expand the reach of the conference, which sold out last year.

“Our conference audience grew beyond our capacity and we wanted to serve more people. In 2017 we started the seminars and they continue to grow,” Professor Kris Norman-Major, director of Hamline’s Public Administration Programs, said.

In 2019 WIPS will offer three spring seminars at the University’s Anderson Center, with subjects based on reaction to programming at the conference in the fall.

“We determined which seminars to offer based on conference participant feedback,” said Norman-Major.

The women of WIPS have spoken.

The next WIPS seminar, scheduled for Thursday, April 11, focuses on leadership style, specifically emotional intelligence (EI). Entitled Expanding Your Leadership Style, it will be led by Hamline School of Business faculty members Peggy Andrews and Hailey Joyce. This seminar will help participants develop their EI and use their own stories to advance their leadership goals.

The final 2019 WIPS seminar will be on Thursday, April 25 and centers on team building and effectiveness. Entitled Maximizing Team Effectiveness in Your Organization, this session will use the Belbin team roles framework to deepen participants’ understanding of team effectiveness.

The costs for the seminars vary, with details are below or on the WIPS Seminar webpage.
