• FAQs for Prospective Graduate Students

  • Is Hamline still open?

Yes! Graduate programs are still being offered and classes are still in session. Graduate classes for fall 2020 will continue to meet in compliance with local and state guidelines. At this time, in-person class meetings will be at the discretion of the professor and will be dependent on class size. There will be no change to online graduate classes.

For information about how Hamline is keeping our community safe, read the Campus Preparedness Plan.

What happens if my transcripts have been sent through US Mail?

Our preference at this time is that official transcripts be sent electronically, if possible. Mail is still being processed at Hamline, however. Graduate admission staff will continue to process transcripts received via US Mail. Email gradprog@hamline.edu with any questions.

Can I still submit a FAFSA to Hamline?

Absolutely. You may complete the FAFSA online. Once we receive your processed FAFSA, you can expect a comprehensive financial aid award letter from Hamline in 7-10 business days.

Will Hamline still be sending out financial aid offer letters during this time? How should I expect to receive that information?

Yes, the financial aid award letters will be mailed until September 2020. Should there be a disruption to US Mail, we will notify you via email. Once you receive your financial aid award letter, we encourage you to reach out to us with any questions and are happy to set up a virtual appointment to walk through your award letter.

  • International students

I am unable to complete testing for language proficiency requirements due to COVID-19. Will this impact my ability to be considered for admission?

All international students must satisfy language proficiency requirements in order to be considered for admission. If you are experiencing difficulty submitting required test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, ACT, or SAT) to meet language proficiency requirements, please contact your admission counselor or email gradprog@hamline.edu.

What alternatives are available if my test date (TOEFL, IELTS, ACT, or SAT) has been canceled?

The Duolingo English Test (DET) is temporarily being accepted as an approved examination of English proficiency. You must score a minimum of 105 to be considered for admission.

Is Hamline still enrolling international students for fall 2020? What are my options if I am not permitted to travel to enroll at Hamline University this fall?

Hamline University values its international students and welcomes students from all parts of the world. We will continue to monitor any travel restrictions and adhere to decisions made by the US government. Students may defer applications to another term, if necessary.

Can I still obtain a visa if I have been accepted to Hamline?

We encourage you to still request visa eligibility documents to ensure you are prepared when the US embassies resume visa processing. Hamline University’s Global Engagement Center (GEC) is available to answer any questions you may have. Reach the GEC at gec@hamline.edu or contact your admission counselor.
