Resources for New Undergraduate Students with a financial aid award package

Once you've received your financial aid award package in the mail review this content along with your financial aid award letter. Be sure to secure your financial aid award using the Financial Aid Checklist.

    Cost Estimator

Determine your approximate bill by using our Cost Estimator along with our current Undergraduate Tuition rates.

    Billing

All student billing is electronic. Access to the e-bill is via Piperline. Hamline bills are released in July after you register for fall classes. Registration takes place during Piper Preview.

Electronic billing provides the student with the option to establish authorized guests, who will have direct access to the e-bills.

    Payment Options

Payment of all charges to a student’s account for each semester must be made in accordance with the Financial Agreement and Disclosure document.

    Semester Plan

Make two payments for the academic year.

Fall charges are due and payable on August 15, 2016, and spring charges on January 16, 2017.

Students will be on the Semester Plan unless a separate application is made for the Installment Plan.

    Installment Plan

The Installment Plan is offered in partnership with Tuition Management Systems (TMS) and allows the payment of tuition to be spread over the course of a semester or school year.

This payment plan is available for an enrollment fee of $75 per year or $40 per semester.

    Health Insurance

All undergraduate students registered for at least 8 credits are required to have health and accident insurance.

You are automatically enrolled in and charged for Hamline’s health insurance coverage. If students have their own policy, they must go online through Piperline to waive Hamline’s insurance coverage.

If students do not go online to waive this fee by the specified semester deadline (September 23, 2016, for the academic year and February 17, 2017, for spring semester), they will be enrolled in Hamline’s health insurance plan and will be responsible for the cost of that coverage (estimated at $1,200/ semester for the 2016–2017 academic year).

Note: Students must waive the health insurance each academic year. No waiver will be carried over from one academic year to the next.

    International Students

For information regarding health insurance requirements for international students, contact the International and Off Campus Programs Office at 651-523-2245.

    Housing

Arrangements for university housing are handled through the Office of Residential Life.

    includED® Book Rental Program

Hamline has partnered with Follett to create an all-inclusive book rental program. The program provides all required course materials to students for one low fee per semester, billed directly to your student account. Students simply pick up their books at the bookstore at the start of each term and return them at the end of finals.

    Grants and Scholarships

Hamline is the largest single source of scholarships and grants for undergraduate students.

Hamline-sponsored scholarships and grants are typically provided by alumni, friends, and the university financial aid fund. Grant eligibility is determined annually based on financial need.

All outside scholarships and grants received must be reported to the Office of Financial Aid. They may reduce your loan or work-study eligibility.

    Military Benefits

Veterans, service members, and their spouses and dependents may be eligible for military education benefits.

    Loans

Approved loans will be disbursed evenly between fall and spring, unless indicated otherwise

The funds will be sent directly to Hamline from your lender and will be applied to your account at the beginning of each semester. Any overpayment will be refunded to you by check or direct deposit.

    Work-Study

Work-study gives students the opportunity to work on campus or at a few off-campus sites. The Office of Human Resources provides assistance to students in their job search.

    Policies

Policies include required Satisfactory Academic Progress standards and the Return of Financial Aid policy should you withdraw or decrease enrollment.

    Summer Semester

Summer financial aid is awarded after you register for summer semester, using your 2016–2017 FAFSA. New loan applications will be required, if applicable.

    Special Circumstances

The 2016-2017 FAFSA reflects your 2015 tax information and sometime does not accurately reflect your current household financial situation.

If you are confronted with special financial challenges (job loss or reduction of earnings, major medical expenses not covered by insurance, changes in household size, etc), please contact us (finaid@hamline.edu or 651.523.3000) to review your award.
