Teaching Style

In Mr. Burns’ undergraduate and graduate courses students learn how to apply theory to practice. He connects the theory of the text with the application of the theory to the work environment his students will enter or may already be engaged. Students leave class with a better understanding of marketing principles, how they work, how they may be affected by marketing activities in our society, and how to better market their ideas and themselves.

“After 25 years I am still passionate about teaching and being in the classroom with students. They keep me young and engaged. I take great pride in having the opportunity as a teacher to touch my students’ lives for the rest of their lives.

One of the best compliments I received as an instructor was from a student who was initially intimidated by my style, who took me for a second class and when I asked him why, he said, ‘Yes he was initially afraid of me but he learned so much he had to do it again.’ He wrote me upon graduation and said my influence made him want to get an MBA and he had enrolled at Creighton University.”
