Biography

Marc Scholten is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry at Hamline University. He received a Bachelor’s degree from Grinnell College in 2001. During his time at Grinnell, he engaged in research projects at Iowa State University and The University of Leiden in the Netherlands. After completing his undergraduate studies, he spent two years cultivating his interests by working for a small pharmaceutical company. In 2008, he received a Ph.D. in chemistry from Stanford University, specializing in the fields of polymer chemistry and homogeneous catalysis. Dr. Scholten continued his studies in polymer chemistry while working for two green technology startup companies in the Twin Cities, which led to the issuance of several US patents. At Hamline, Dr. Scholten teaches Organic Chemistry and Hamline’s chemistry course for non-majors, Chemistry and Society.
