Inservice Teachers: The ELM Institute
Over the course of the grant cycle, the ELM Project will provide
professional development for 2,225 in-service teachers in order to
improve instruction for ELs. This train-the-trainer model of
professional development will be led by Hamline-trained ESL teachers
from their respective schools.
Through the inservice strategy,
teacher-coaches will lead, observe, support, and assess mainstream
teacher in their schools. As a result of participation in The ELM
Institute, mainstream teachers will meet the Minnesota LEAPS Act relicensure requirements. The ELM Institute will address the Institute
of Education Sciences (2014) recommendations, as well as the best
practices for professional development as outlined by Leaning Forward
(formerly National Staff Development Council, n.d.).
