    The School-to-Prison Pipeline

    Paying with Their Lives

Join us for a conversation with a panel of members representing K-12 education, higher education, and the judicial system, as well as a young man who has experienced the school-to-prison pipeline, to address the growing phenomenon of the school-to-prison pipeline.

The pipeline refers to the growing tendency of public schools to track students out of educational institutions and into the juvenile and adult criminal justice systems. This tendency disproportionately affects youth of color and youth with disabilities. There are many variables contributing to the school-to-prison pipeline. Join us to discuss how the school-to-prison pipeline happens (deficit thinking, over representation in special education, tracking, suspension, expulsion, zero tolerance policies, etc.) and what we can do in our schools and society to prevent it from continuing.
