• Apply to the EdD: Doctorate in Education

    Application Deadlines

    The deadline for application to the EdD 11 cohort (beginning in the fall of 2019) is February 15. Elective coursework can begin immediately.

    Application Process

    To apply for the Doctorate of Education program, please submit:

    • Online application (no fee for U.S. residents).
    • Official transcript of a master's degree with a GPA of at least 3.0 and a bachelor's degree transcript from a regionally accredited university. Transcripts must be sent directly from the institution to the Graduate Admission office or provided in a sealed, signed envelope. You do not need to supply transcripts for courses taken at Hamline University.
    • A statement of your educational aims that specifies how the Hamline EdD will help you achieve your goals (one to two pages). 
    • An article written by you that demonstrates your ability to synthesize and portray thinking about a critical issue in education (at least 10 pages). 
    • Three letters of recommendation, including at least two from instructors familiar with your learning and leadership capacity.
    • A résumé demonstrating at least three years of relevant work experience.
    • Non-native speakers of English must also submit evidence of either a bachelor's degree from an English-language university or a TOEFL score of 100 for internet based, 250 for computer based, or 600 for paper based or IELTS score of 7.

    After application materials have been submitted, you will be contacted to schedule an interview with a faculty committee.

    Transfer of Credits

    Up to eight semester graduate credits taken prior to admission at Hamline or other institutions may be considered for transfer toward satisfaction of elective requirements upon approval. View transfer of credit policy for the EdD Program.
