• Admission Requirements - TEFL Certificate

    When To Apply

    The TEFL Certificate program can be started in fall (September), spring (February), and summer (June) terms. Admission is on a rolling and first come, first admitted basis. Please apply no later than two weeks prior to the start of any term to ensure your application can be processed.

    Who Can Apply

    • If you are a Hamline University undergraduate student, you must have junior or senior status at the start of the course and complete an interview with the lead faculty member, Betsy Parrish. Contact Professor Parrish at 651-523-2853 or bparrish@hamline.edu to arrange to interview and enroll in the program.
    • All other students must have an associate’s or a bachelor’s degree.
    • Non-native English speakers, must have documentation of a TOEFL score of at least 80 (IBT)/213 (CBT) and successfully complete an oral interview.

    How To Apply

    • A completed online application (no payment required).
    • A one-page statement that addresses why you aspire to teach English as a foreign language.
    • An official transcript from a regionally-accredited college or university demonstrating award of a bachelor’s or associate’s degree. The must be sent directly from the institution to Graduate Admission or provided in a sealed, signed envelope. You do not need to supply transcripts for courses taken at Hamline University.
