Advanced TEFL Certificate Curriculum
An Advanced TEFL Certificate is granted to individuals completing the following courses, in addition to the initial 8-credit TEFL Certificate. Course listings See Graduate Professional Development (Continuing Studies).
Required Courses: (12 credits)
- ESL 8100: Linguistics for Language Teachers (4 credits)
Previously ESL 7519: Linguistics for Language Teachers
- ESL 8120: Pedagogical Grammar and Discourse (4 credits)
Previously 7650: Basics of Modern English
- ESL 8130: Exploring Learner Language and SLA (4 credits)
Previously ESL 7660: Second Language Acquisition
Face-to-Face and Online Courses
The initial 8-credit TEFL course must be completed on campus, but all of the above are offered online and can be completed from anywhere in the world through the internet. These three Advanced TEFL classes can be taken before or after the initial TEFL courses.
Make Your Credits Count For More
Hamline's Advanced TEFL Certificate may be applied to fulfill electives for Hamline's Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) which may be completed in person or online.
