• Adult ESL Certificate Curriculum

    Take any course(s) individually or enroll in the certificate program. Contact gcs@hamline.edu for course descriptions and scheduling information.  

    Required Courses: (8 credits)

    • ESL 7631: Introduction to the Adult ESL Learner: Developing Reading and Writing Skills, (available fall)
    • ESL 7634: Introduction to the Adult ESL Learner: Developing Oral Skills, 2 credits (available fall)
    • ESL 7636: Course Design for Adult ESL Classes, 2 credits (available spring)
    • ESL 7638: Assessment of the Adult ESL Student, 2 credits (available spring)

    Individuals are required to take eight semester credits. For your convenience, all coursework is available online, beginning with ESL 7631. Upon successful completion of the four courses, candidates compile a portfolio of their work in the program and attend an exit interview with a Hamline faculty member.

    Students new to the field of adult ESL who are planning to follow the entire sequence of courses must start with ESL 7631 or ESL 7634.

    MNSCU Note

    The certificate coursework may fulfill the assigned field requirements for those working in the Minnesota State Colleges and University (MNSCU) system. All ESL courses have been approved for assigned field designation by MNSCU.
