• Research Areas

Develop a research project with the Department of Theatre and Dance and produce something noteworthy. Whether you wish to write a script, a score, a research paper, or build something for the stage, Hamline's Department of Theatre and Dance will supply you with the tools for your success.

    Directing Image

Take creative control of a production and make it your own. Students are given many opportunities to direct, creating some of Hamline's most vibrant productions.

Students in the past have directed children's theatre productions, social justice theatre, as well as classical theatrical productions.

    Student Projects:

    • Shakespeare on the Lawn, Directed by: Grace Barnstead ('18), 2016
    • Bully Belle and the Tough Spot, Directed by: Jeff Reuter ('15), 2016
    • The Autism Adventures of Watson and Holmes, Directed by: Sarah Simon ('15), 2015

    Bully Belle

Develop a script for your own play and have it brought to life by your fellow classmates. With access to Hamline's vast library and dramaturgical resources, you have all the power to create and the support to produce.

In the past, students have used summer research opportunities to study and develop scripts around issues, and have participated in creating social justice pieces for Hamline's on campus social justice theatre troupe, Making Waves.

    Student Projects:

    • Bully Belle and the Tough Spot, a children's puppet show, Written by: Sarah Simon ('15)
    • The Autism Adventures of Watson and Holmes, a children's puppet show, Written by: Sarah Simon ('15)

    Past/Present choreography

Take your place among Hamline's Dance Ensemble, and choreograph your own pieces. Under the instruction of Kaori Kenmotsu, you can take physical expression to new heights and develop skills as a choreographer.

Student choreography is showcased every year at Hamline Dance Ensemble's mainstage shows.
