Jason Travers began painting in a tradition firmly committed to the landscape. Following in the custom of the Impressionists, he studied light and color differences embodied in plein air painting. Though literal references to nature have diminished, his paintings are still rooted in the experience of contemplating the landscape.

By using subtle, vibrating color and surface differences, these paintings vibrate with the opulence embodied in natural processes. Using a format of diptychs and multi-panel configurations, Travers’ paintings suggest the mythical and formal dialog of dualities. They do not hang passively on the wall, but play with the viewer’s spatial awareness. These sculptural paintings are quiet, meditative, and poetic. They may appear simple, but given the time they will open to the senses.

Travers received a BFA in painting from the Art Institute of Boston, and an MFA in Painting from American University. He lives and works in Providence, RI.
