Internships, Service Learning, Careers & Post-Graduate Opportunities

    Career Development Center

Hamline University has a full service Career Development Center where you can learn more about career paths and transferable skills. The Center provides many excellent opportunities from resume help to job search strategies. Students and graduates may access current internship and job openings on Hamline Career Link.

All students completing a paralegal certificate* are encouraged, but not required, to complete an internship. Students pursuing a Legal Studies Major may chose to enroll in LGST 5900 (Legal Studies Practicum) as their capstone experience and complete the required legal internship course component.

If you are an employer interested in hosting a Hamline legal intern, you may contact our Career Development Center for more information.

*Paralegals may not provide legal services directly to clients or to the public, except as permitted by law. A paralegal certificate does not qualify the recipient to sit for the bar examination or work as a lawyer.

    Service Learning

Growing out of Hamline University's vision to be "locally engaged and globally connected,"  the Legal Studies Department strives to cultivate the civic knowledge, skills and values that will best equip students to take meaningful civic action and create sustainable social change. Within their coursework, legal studies students have volunteered as legislative and court monitors, research assistants,  tenant advocates, and legal assistants with a variety of local non-profit agencies. See how these experiences have impacted Hamline students, below.
