Engines and motors are everywhere in the modern world, but it is a challenge to make them work if they are very small. On the micron length scale, inertial forces are weak, and conventional motor designs involving components such as pistons or flywheels cease to function.

Impact of Intercollegiate Athletics on College Campuses

In 1852, Harvard and Yale competed in the first-ever intercollegiate athletic contest in the sport of Crew. That contest sparked a now multi-billion dollar industry of college athletics. In this Leo Lecture, Athletic Director and Assistant Vice President Alex Focke will discuss the positive impact that intercollegiate athletics can have on enrollment, community, fundraising, and culture. Whether you are a former Piper athlete, a fan of college athletics, or have young athletes in your life, you will appreciate this look into collegiate athletics. 

Leo Lectures are short, timely talks that provide inspiration and innovation from Hamline thought leaders.

In this interactive session, entitled "Engaging Minds, Inspiring Readers," we will explore practical, evidence-based strategies to advance literacy learning and student engagement. Research shows that young people need daily opportunities to engage in reading, writing, and communicating to improve reading success. This session will cull strategies from the presenter and author Jen McCarty Plucker's book, Inspiring Lifelong Readers, to support teachers with advancing literacy for learners.
