James C. Evans (Chris) currently practices patent law and computer law as a partner with Beck & Tysver, PLLC, in Minneapolis. The patent practice has included computer hardware, software, and networking; computer modeling and simulation; consumer electronics; energy and environmental; video equipment and production; and medical devices.

Evans is a member of the Council of the Computer and Technology Law Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA), serving as an officer from 2008 to 2012, and chairing the Section from 2010-2011. He is also a member of the Environmental, Natural Resources, and Energy; Alternative Dispute Resolution; and Solo & Small Firm Sections of the MSBA.

Evans graduated magna cum laude from Drexel University with a BS in Mathematics; from the University of Texas at Austin with an MA in Mathematics and a minor in Marine Science; from the University of Texas School of Law as a JD with honors; and from Florida State University with a PhD in Oceanography. Researching the physics of the global oceans with computer models, he served as a scientist at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, and later as a faculty member in the Marine Science Program and Department of Geological Sciences at the University of South Carolina.
