In Memoriam: Alexandra “Sandy“ Klas, 1930-2021

On Tuesday, May 31st, Hamline University, Minnesota, and the world lost a treasure: Alexandra “Sandy” Klas LHD ’08 (hon.).

The life she lived and the work she did on behalf of others stands as a testament to her generous heart and her commitment to helping people—to doing good. She used her artistic gifts, verbal acumen, and interpersonal skills to effectively ameliorate inequities in education and promote opportunities for people living with disabilities. She did everything her way and, when she did, we all took notice.

Sandy was a true Piper, supporting Hamline not only financially, but also with her unforgettable presence. She and her late husband, Bob '52 LHD '08 (hon.) were both Life Trustees and proud benefactors of Hamline University; Klas Center is named after them. Three of their six children attended Hamline: Trustee Bob Klas, Jr. ’75, Elizabeth Klas ’78, and Tom Klas MNM/MBA ’08.

Sandy will be missed by us all.
