This is weird! I did as you suggest and the Document Overview option had
the Edit button grayed out. I then tried Document Recompose and of course I
got the message that says the bibliographic citations will not be recomposed
- Use Alt + F7 instead. I did that and all was well. The dynamic update
that had not occurred with clicking on the button on the Status bar occurred
at this time. Why I do not know, but you seem to have got me back on track.

I've had this happen when it loses track of which database I'm using. One
way of accessing it is to go to the Format-Document Overview menu. Select
the references tab, edit it, select the general tab, and make sure that your
database is selected.
