Deleting the link from the copied record is safe (provided you double-
check that it is actually the copied record, not the original).  It is 
very important, though, to use the "Delete link" feature, and not 
simply delete the text of the link manually.  If you simply backspace 
over the link within the field, the link itself will actually remain 
(there'll be a little green bit in the field to indicate it) and things 
will get confusing when you try to insert a different link.
