Your strategy would likely be conditioned
by the volume of affected items (files, Ibidem records), and what type
of detail you wish to achieve. Ibidem offers several types of links and,
within the realm of NB documents specifically, two: Note (followed by the
size of index card or paper), and NB File. One of the differences between
the two is that as keywords change in an Ibidem record linked to a given
notes file, the changes will be reflected in that file. That is, there
is dynamic linkage between Ibidem records and notes files created by Ibidem.
By contrast, an Ibidem record can also be linked to an *NB File*, even
if the file is pre-existent. This link serves much the same purpose, only
the keywords in Ibidem are not dynamically linked and updated.
If you have only one file ("Revs")
in which the summaries and reviews appear, you can make your choice according
to your needs. If you have multiple files of reviews and summaries, you
can create new links for each article or book (after deleting any existing
links), followed by copying and pasting into the newly created, dynamically-linked
note.

Managing Ibidem Note-Taking
Files
Dear Notabenieri
When the note-taking file first appeared in
Ibidem (several
incarnations ago of NB), I was able to name the file myself and store
it where I wished. I used a file called "Revs" (for reviews),
and
used the note-taking file to write summaries and reviews of various
articles and books whose records I had stored in Ibidem. There was no
linking feature as there is now in NB8. Now when a note-taking file
is generated, it is given an indexed name by NB and saved in a
predetermined folder. What I am looking for is a quick and easy way
of reorganising earlier note-taking files, so as to use the linking
feature. Do I have to manually create a new note-taking file (to
which NB will will assign an indexed name), and then copy the
contents of my older note-taking files into the newly created one (if
you know what I mean!!)? Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
John
