Version 8.0 is now available!

Good news! It is official. Version 8.0 is now available!

Our thanks to all of you who purchased the beta and helped us perfect the
program by using the beta version of the program on a wide variety of
systems around the world. This is the most fully tested, reliable version
we've ever released.

It is also the release with the longest list of new/improved features. There
are well over 100 new or improved features--too many to mention here. A few
highlights:
-- Brand new features include Instant Orbis, custom citations (formatted
exactly the way you want them), line numbering, multi-level clipboard
(retrieve any of the last 50 deleted or copies items) and much more.
-- Redesigned or improved features include Frameworks (much easier to work
with), Manuscript files, Orbis textbase creation, automatic backup, numerous
redesigned dialogs, and new right-click menus.
-- New integration between Ibidem, Orbis and the word processor provides new
efficiency. Place your cursor on a word in a Nota Bene file or in an Ibidem
field and press Ctrl+Shift+F. Your most recently opened Orbis textbase will
open and search all your files for that word. Enter short form citation
(author-page) in your Note-Taking file to keep track of the page number.
Then copy/paste a section from your Note-Taking file to the paper you are
writing (or insert it from Orbis), and the author-page notation will become
a citation in your paper, automatically formatted in the style selected for
the paper.
-- Several options for context-sensitive Help give you information when and
where you need it. For example, pop-up screens will tell you the meaning of
a code in codes view, or how to enter data in an Ibidem field. InfoTips and
ActionTips tell you about different features and how to use them.
-- Behind the scenes changes make the program more stable. For example,
Microsoft's introduction of service pack 2 for Windows XP caused problems on
some systems, and these problems are fully resolved in version 8

Over the next few weeks, we will be making major changes to our web site,
and will be gradually making announcements about the new release. Our
announcements will be gradual so that our processing of new orders will be
timely. You on this list are the first to hear (even before v8 is announced
on our web site).

Many of you are entitled to a free copy of version 8 due to your purchase of
version 8 or your purchase of version 7 as part of an offer for a free
version 8. You should be receiving download instructions via e-mail sometime
this week or next (if are entitled to a free v. 8 and don't hear from us by
by April 7, please send an e-mail to customerservice@notabene.com). Those
who are entitled to a free version 8 and paid for shipping with your
original order will receive version 8 on CD. We are starting to ship the CDs
now, but getting them all shipped will take a few weeks.

If you have not yet purchased version 8 and would like to, please go to the
following page to place your order:

Finally, I'd like to offer special thanks to Mary Bernard and Mark Szuchman,
two list members who have made outstanding contributions to version 8 and to
the Nota Bene community.

Mary has spent more hours than you can imagine in formatting the on-screen
Help as printable NB files (updating her previous versions). We'll be
posting PDF versions of these files on our web page soon, and the files in
NB format are available in version 8 from the Help menu. In addition, Mary
has written "Mary Bernard's Customization and Programming Notes" which has
been incorporated in the on-screen and printable versions of NB Help. Mary's
notes provide direction and encouragement for those who would like to
customize their keyboards or write XPL programs. She mentions this list as
one of several resources available to NB users.

Mark has contributed an excellent series of videos that we hope will play an
important role in introducing NB to new users. The Help menu in version 8
provides a direct link to these videos. They are also available at:

Thanks to all of you for your interest and support. Please tell your friends
and colleagues about our new release!

Best to all,

Anne
