Gail,
I'm also looking into replacing my laptop (Toshiba A10) and would be very
interested if you would pass on any of the wisdom acquired in your search.
I love my Toshiba, but several of the NB shortcuts (esp involving function
keys) cause strange things to happen. I realize that some manufacturers
build their own shortcuts into their keyboards and so it would be good to
have a heads up on that.
I'm looking for something under $2,000 that has a decent battery life.
Any suggestions (I'll look into the Dell) would be greatly welcome.
Steve Martin.

Dear all -
I just want to take a moment to thank those of you who responded to my note
about buying a new computer, and report back on what happened. For several
reasons, including a nice academic discount, I decided to get the Dell XPS
M140. This is the one with Windows XP Media Center as the OS. After all of
two days (almost), so far so good...
Gail
