y and snaking columns

Since installing Beta y I find that Snaking columns (new or old) don't 
work.  I have a left column much narrower than the right, but NB won't 
allow the right one to be wider than the left; it doesn't matter whether 
or not I use the new SNX form (or use the menu) or the old SN form. It's 
been working fine for years. I've reported this, but it would be helpful 
if there were confirmation (or denial).
