Identifying release version

Someone recently commented that (s)he wished that it were possible to
identify whether one was using u or v or w or x or whatever.

I've had the same thoughts..... experimented..... found that if you open
/NBWIN/SETUP.BMP in  (eg) Photo Suite you can add text to the bitmap file.

Bob's your uncle..... it seems to work without penalties, so far......but no
guarantees......!
