There is in NB, as a hold over from XyWrite, an LB command that inserts
text in a given location without showing up in printed output, and
only showing up in "page layout" view as a little marker (a
kind of flag). It shows up in "codes" view.
To use it, go to the command line and then type LB and then either
"enter" or the execute command function key, and that will open
up the same text box that you get with the FN footnote
command. In general, LB text behaves like FN text, except that it
doesn't print and doesn't appear as foot/end notes.

I am not familiar with this
feature of word, but perhaps these will help:
1) there is an undocumented (i think) command IV which opens an input
window like a footote but leaves no trace in normal view. In draft view
it
is identified as "Invisible comment" in verbose mode, IV in
brief mode.
2). Since NB does not print background, you can use white type on a dark
background and it will be visible on screen but not print. In ver.
8 this
is easy to do with control-7 and control-8.
