Christian, Barrie,

My flying instructor, who is a professional pilot for the Red Cross air
ambulance, has no problem with me. He's less than half my age but always has
the nerve to grab the Traumahawk's controls with contempt when I attempt
what I call a "landing" but which he insists qualifies better as an
unsuccessful arrival. We do this thing on the main runway right in front of
the tower and the watching crowds in the terminal buildings at Cape Town's
very busy international airport, and I have come to the conclusion that he's
still young and inhibited and has not yet learned that Piper did not design
the damn plane to fly straight and level. He's talented, though, and I have
hopes for him especially now that Chutnyfex (aka Geraldine) gave me a
birthday present of some more flying lessons.

Barrie reminds me of Chutneyfex's anecdote while we
were living in Exeter still, before she retired from the NHS as a Family
Practitioner. One of her hospital colleagues (a very senior and
distinguished consultant) once admitted to her that every morning he parked
his car and walked towards the building with a sinking feeling that that was
the day his younger colleagues would find out the truth about him....
